3 Day First Aid At Work Course

Overview

The aim of the first aid at work course is to provide delegates with a comprehensive introduction to first aid practical skills to gain confidence and knowledge to become a first aider within the workplace. Our 3 day programme meets the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for first aiders working in medium to high-risk environments.

Content

By the end of the course, delegates should be able to have knowledge of:

  • Roles and responsibilities as a first aider
    • How to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness
    • First aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
    • Assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis
    • Head injuries
    • Health and safety (first aid) law and regulations
    • Low blood sugar
    • Asthma
    • Poisoning
    • First aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Seizures (adult)
    • Severe allergic reaction
    • Shock
    • Spinal injuries
    • Stroke
    • Unresponsive casualty
    • Defibrillator pad placement
    • Bleeding (minor and severe)
    • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
    • Burns and scalds
    • Chest pains (including heart attack)
    • How to respond to an adult choking
    • Eye injuries
    • Fainting
    • Defibrillator prompts and how to respond

3 days

Assessment

Candidates are assessed via continuous trainer observation and written assessment. Candidates need a basic command of English. We may be able to make specific arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact our office on 01709 464050 for any guidance and/or queries.

The HSE recommend delegates continue their ongoing skills and development by attending a refresher course prior to the expiry of their 3 year certification.
