Cat 1 & HSG47 Locating Underground Services

EUSR provides recognized standards and skills for the utility sector. Category 1: Locate Utility Services covers the minimum training and assessment required for those working to safely detect utility services using recognised and approved detection procedures. This 1 day course is designed for experienced operatives with an active knowledge of utility operations and excavating practices to safely detect utility services using approved detection methods.

Course Content

• Identify dangers and hazards associated with underground services using the Cat

• Interpret utility drawings and line search documents
• Use location equipment to locate underground services

• Awareness of the legislation and health and safety guidance
• The principles and functions of the C.A.T and Genny.

The standard has been derived from the following National Occupational Standards:

• EUSMUNC06 Locate and Avoid Services for Utilities Network Construction.
• EUSEPUS044 Location and Identification of Underground Utility Services in the Electricity Power Utilities.

It also incorporates the relevant requirements of HSE guidance documents:

• HSG47 Avoiding Danger from Underground Services.
• HSG150 Health and Safety in Construction.

Successful delegates will receive a certificate of competence, a EUSR skills card that is valid for 3 years from the date of completion as well as registration on the Energy Utility Skills Register.
