Manual Handling Training

Overview

Employers have a legal obligation under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 to ensure that they and their employees are sufficiently trained and competent in the safe practices of manual handling.  Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers to provide the necessary safety information and training to all their employees.

The Manual Handling Training course is aimed at all employees who may undertake any form of manual handling operations such as lifting, lowering, carrying, pulling, pushing, manoeuvring, transporting either by hand or with bodily force. Professions this includes are warehouse/factory staff, office workers, delivery drivers, agricultural workers, heavy manual labourers, construction and building site workers.

Upon successful completion of the course candidates will have gained practical skills and knowledge of:

  • Roles and responsibilities of employers and employees
  • Law and Legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and its implications
  • Manual handling risk factors and how injuries can occur
  • Risk Assessments for Safe Manual Handling
  • The use of safe and appropriate safe systems of work
  • Avoiding and controlling the risks
  • Safe Manual Handling techniques
